Not your typical Bateman...

If there is such thing as a typical Bateman, this isn't it.

Still life with Chinese scroll by Robert Bateman

I'm sure for some it's bland and for others it's refreshing.

I find that my response to this painting overtakes my normally anxious emotional state with a sudden and intensely satisfying calmness. It feels amazing.

And another painting that I also love how it makes me feel:

Armillary Sphere - Based on an original oil painting by Jia Lu

Do you know of any art that does the same thing to you?

As you know, I love anything by Lawren Harris. Apparently I'll always be a first year university student...

I have great Group of Seven calendar from '05 that has a wonderful litho of Harris' Lake and the Mountains -1928. It's actually one of my favorites in the calendar but you can have it if you want it. I'd rather you had it and enjoyed it than have it continue to sit in my "stuff I'll do when I run out of things to do" pile.

I think I have that calendar, too, actually. :) I keep meaning to do something with that image.

I'll have to now, though, because I never realized before it was from 1928. I like the idea of putting a 1928 picture up in my 1928 house.

That's very cool about the dates! You have to put it up now! If you want to frame it really nice, Michaels (artsy-fartsy store) quite often has a 50% off framing coupon in their flyer. They had really nice weathered barn-wood framing material in-stock a while back that would look really great with it. Just a thought...

Thank you for posting my "Armillary Sphere" on your blog, and in such good company. It IS an unusual Bateman, but I'm always so impressed by his work.
