The BIG leap.

By the power invested in me by Blogger, I push the PUBLISH button on my first poem (as requested by G-)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The devil you know...
There's a rage within me-
taunting me for release
it promises to be good...
...that I am in control
"you'll feel better when I'm not trapped in here"
it says.
I drink to keep it quiet...
...pick fights to appease it
but
I
never
EVER
let it out...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The backstory:

This is the poem that started its life as some nearly illegible words written on the back of a gas receipt. It's based a little on personal experience but mostly on a fictional character I've come to know fairly well.

Weird. It feels strange to look at it here - it's just something that began as an emotion that found words in my head to express itself...

What a strange feeling-

Oh my god -- it's a Kelly poem, isn't it? I love it.

You've brought so much to that character, I have to say, in terms of inner life.

Do you know there are Gabe songs, btw? Magician is one, and the instrumental on Sacrifice (Bathysphere), and then there's one that's not on any site or anything because it's just demo quality at the moment.

Thanks for the feedback G-!

It's a little scary putting stuff out there - even if it's just in the blogosphere.

I knew the backstory wasn't necessary for you or R...
(If it was, I'd be seriously concerned) :)
I added it to clarify things for those who don't know Kelly.

I'm not sure that Kelly's this self aware even though she knows to keep it in check. And then there's the issue about her enjoying the company...

Awww - crap, stupid IE!

I just realized the bloody formatting shows up when you view it with IE -

Stupid inferior browser...
(it looked fine with firefox)

Arrgh!

Ok, it should be fixed now (- it'll act up on firefox now, just to spite me...)

That was NOT fun.

I think you told me before that there were Gabe songs - just not which ones.
Could you tell me if any of your songs should be included on a sequel to the Psych mix Disc? I ask because if you let me know - I'll try and get some air time for it in class. I'd much rather give you a plug! BTW- I got to play "My Brain" today in class.

Magician, incidentally, is Gabe's impression of Colin. But the Gabe in the radio show isn't at the point where he could write that song yet, because he doesn't remember what he needs to remember to write it.

OK, I've re-posted this thing over a dozen times because blogger keeps f***ing with the formatting. I finally stopped fighting the glich and used it to my advantage...

TA-DA!

I'm actually even happier with the poem now!

If anyone wants me to post a .pdf of it, let me know!

I love to know why we can't just go ahead and use basic HTML in blog posts -- or at least opt to do so. WordPress claims that you can opt for HTML, but it lies. It is a liar.

Anyway, please do send me a PDF. I kinda collect Orphans stuff, you know?
